MADÁCH THEATRE
Andrew Lloyd Webber:
Cats
(musical)
There is a cats’ ball on the abandoned stage of the theatre. This ball is organised annually, where cats (with human features) gather from the neighbourhood. The sing and dance their lives.
Andrew Lloyd Webber composed the musical ”Cats”, which immediately became world famous, based on T. S. Eliot’s cyclic poem ”Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats”.
The Budapest Madách Theatre produced it in 1983, second in the wold, right after its London debut. It started a process making Madách Theatre one of the world’s best musical theatres by now.
Since 1983 the musical has been played over 1600 times, breaking all Hungarian theatre records. Generations of theatre-going youngsters have grown up on this.
If you happen to be staying in Budapest, you shouldn’t miss this fantastic performance!
